Types of Visa in Malaysia
Malaysia is a perfect country to visit. No matter if it is for travel or business purposes, foreign nationals are able to seek excitement and opportunities in Malaysia. Therefore, foreign nationals will prefer to stay longer in Malaysia. Hence, before applying for a visa do check the functionality and validity of it.
Below are the types of visa in Malaysia:

Multiple-entry visa
This visa is issued to foreign nationals who need to enter Malaysia for business or government-to-government matters. Normally, the valid date for this visa can be 3 to 12 months from the date after approved. The validity of the Multiple Entry Visa is a year. Each entry is for 30 days only and the extension of stay is strictly not allowed. Indian and Chinese citizens who wish to visit Malaysia with the purpose of a social visit (tourism) are also eligible to get this visa to Malaysia.
Below are the important requirements to apply multiple-entry:
- The applicant must show proof of sufficient funds for staying in Malaysia
- The applicant must possess a valid and confirmed return ticket
- Tour groups are not eligible to apply for a Multiple Entry Visa.
Airport transit visa
Airport transit visa is also known as transit visa. This visa is issued to foreign nationals who need to transit in Malaysia to another country and will leave Malaysia’s airport. For those who do not have to leave the airport, this visa is not required to apply.
Single-entry visa
This visa is for the purpose of a social visit in Malaysia. Each entry is for 30 days only and the extension of stay is not allowed.

Work and Holiday Visa
Work & holiday visa is under a special program with Australia. This program provides the opportunities to young people in Malaysia & Australia to work temporarily to cover daily expenses during travelling in the country.
Requirements to apply as below:
- Intended primarily to holiday in Malaysia or Australia for a specified period;
- Aged between eighteen (18) and thirty (30) years at the time of the application for the visa;
- Hold tertiary qualifications, or have successfully completed at least two (2) years of undergraduate studies at a university;
- Able to communicate in English proficiently;
- Are not accompanied by dependent children;
- Have not previously taken part in the ‘Work and Holiday’ programme;
- Possess a valid passport and a return travel ticket or have sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket;
- Have sufficient funds for their upkeep during the initial period of living in Malaysia or Australia,;
- Meet health requirements:
a. Malaysian applicants – Meet Australia’s health requirements;
b. Australian applicants – Required to have good health with valid medical certificates issued by qualified doctors in Australia; and - Be of good character.


Those who have entered Malaysia or Australia on a ‘Work and Holiday’ Visa will be required to comply with the respective laws, rules and regulations of Malaysia and Australia and not engage in employment that is contrary to the purpose of the ‘Work and Holiday’ programme.
- For both Malaysians and Australians, the principal purpose of the ‘Work and Holiday’ programme is to encourage travelling with work being incidental to the holiday;
- Australian participants of this programme are not allowed to work in the following sectors:-
– any firm or company which requires professional qualifications;
– the entertainment industry such as singing and dancing;
– the spa;
– the service counter (front office); and
– voluntary activity. - For both Malaysians and Australians, ‘Work and Holiday’ holders must not be employed by any one employer for more than six (6) months;
- For both Malaysians and Australians, ‘Work and Holiday’ Visa holders will not be permitted to engage in any studies or training for more than four (4) months of the visit;
- For both Malaysians and Australians, a ‘Work and Holiday’ Visa will automatically entitle the visa holder to work and reside temporarily in Malaysia or Australia;
- A Malaysian citizen can apply for the “Work and Holiday ‘programme at the Australian Embassy in Malaysia and an Australian citizen can apply for the same programme at the Malaysian Embassy in Australia;
- Applicants for ‘Work and Holiday’ Visas will need to provide a letter from the relevant government ministry which selected them to participate in the programme to ensure that they meet all the eligibility requirements; and
- Applicants will be interviewed, when necessary, by representatives of each country to determine their eligibility for the grant of a visa.
eNTRI visa
eNTRI also known as Electronic Travel Registration & Information visa. eNTRI visa is an online registration which facilities the entrance of eligible citizens to Malaysia under the country’s visa waiver program. This program is only open to China and India. Upon arrival in Malaysia, a note will be issued as proof of the registration is required to present. Bear in mind, these visa holders are only allowed to stay in Malaysia for not more than 15 days. No extension is allowed.
Applicants residing inside India or China must have a direct flight from India or China to Malaysia and direct return flight ticket from Malaysia to India or China or transit via Singapore, Thailand or Brunei by air or land is permitted to enter Malaysia and exit Malaysia via the following Entry / Exit points:
By Air
- Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Sepang (KLIA & KLIA 2)
- Penang International Airport, Pulau Pinang
- Langkawi International Airport, Kedah
- Melaka International Airport, Melaka
- Senai International Airport, Johor
- Kuching International Airport, Sarawak
- Miri International Airport, Sarawak
- Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Sabah
- Labuan International Airport, Sabah
By Land
- Sultan Iskandar Building Immigration Checkpoint, Johor
- Sultan Abu Bakar Checkpoint, Johor
- Padang Besar Checkpoint, Perlis
- Bukit Kayu Hitam Checkpoint, Kedah
- Sungai Tujuh Immigration Checkpoint, Sarawak
- Tedungan Immigration Checkpoint, Sarawak
This following documents are required to be presented upon arrival in Malaysia entry checkpoints:
- eNTRI printout.
- Boarding pass.
- Sufficient funds (Cash/Debit or Credit Cards with UnionPay logo/Travellers Cheque).
- Confirmed returned flight tickets.

eVisa
This is a very convenient visa to apply. It is an online application platform that allows foreign nationals to apply for an electronic visa to enter Malaysia. eVISA is valid for 3 months while eVISA holders are entitled to stay up not more than 30 days for each visit in Malaysia depending on the type of the eVISA.

Under the eVISA category, there is eVISA medical. This visa is for foreign nationals who seek health care in Malaysia. Patients can stay up to 90 days but appointments are only available for private hospitals. Public healthcare is not allowed for eVISA holders.
